Synthetic drug, similar to amphetamines, is dangerously popular. The summer after graduation, Eckler, who started using Xanax and cocaine her junior year along with some of her friends, began searching for a stronger high. What she found was a synthetic drug that has become increasingly popular because of its price, potency, availability and — perhaps most troubling — the difficulty in detecting it in a person’s system.

She discovered bath salts.

Despite its seemingly innocuous name, the powdery substance — typically snorted — is a synthetic drug that contains amphetaminelike chemicals. The drug is relatively new, but it is gaining popularity and notoriety.
